Union representing grocery workers pushing to expand hazard pay across Puget Sound region
Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, grocery store workers in the Puget Sound region have worried about their safety.

After months of unsuccessful negotiations, workers and UFCW 21, the union representing grocery store workers across the Puget Sound, have taken the fight to local elected officials.
Seattle passed an ordinance last month adding $4 per hour in hazard pay for grocery store workers in large grocery stores in the city. Burien followed shortly after, passing its own $5 per hour hazard pay ordinance. And earlier this month, King County Council introduced a proposal that would give hazard pay to grocery store workers in unincorporated King County.
Now, UFCW 21 is continuing to push the movement forward, starting conversations with even more local leaders in surrounding areas across the Puget Sound about putting into place hazard pay ordinances that will help more employees earn additional income throughout the pandemic.
