Federal prosecutors say a former guard at Washingtons maximum-security lock-up for juveniles accepted $11,170 in payments to smuggle drugs, cell phones and other contraband to young offenders.
FBI investigators determined Julio W. Hayes, 40, spent most of the money purchasing various contraband but kept a cut of the money for each delivery for himself.
Hayes, who worked at the Green Hill School in Chehalis since November 2018, was fired after an FBI raid in February 2020.
Hayes was indicted on seven counts of extortion, two counts of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Hayes has not yet entered a plea to the charges and will be arraigned on March 16.

(11,780 posts)About 45 years ago I went to visit a friend of mine who was in a juvenile lockup. This place sounds right, but wouldn't have called it maximum security back then. I must have been 21 myself and I visited him there and asked if I could bring him some McDonalds and they said ok. I went to the liquor store and bought something and spiked his coke when I came back with the food. Not the smartest move on my part and I'm sure I'd have been in big trouble if caught. Just makes me think how much times have changed. Security was nothing like today and juvenile offenders are much worse these days.
