Restaurant groups petition Inslee to make industry workers eligible for vaccines
The Washington Hospitality Association and the Seattle Restaurant Alliance sent a petition with more than 3,500 signatures to Gov. Jay Inslees office Monday requesting restaurant workers be added to the upcoming second tier of Phase 1B of the state's Covid-19 vaccine eligibility timeline.
Inslee last week announced the state would move into the next tier of vaccine eligibility on Wednesday, allowing vaccinations for essential workers such as grocery store employees.
Restaurant and hospitality workers have been absolutely essential throughout the pandemic, yet they cannot get access to the vaccine alongside other essential workers, said Anthony Anton, president and CEO of the Washington Hospitality Association, in a news release.
Restaurant workers were excluded from Phase 1 of the state's vaccine rollout. In a February interview, the state Department of Health told the Business Journal the exclusion was intentional due to lack of supply.
