'I feel sad and I feel proud:' Hundreds denounce hate crimes against Asian Americans
On a rain-soaked Saturday evening, a crowd of hundreds, if not close to a thousand, rallied to denounce hate crimes and attacks on Asian Americans in the days following the deadly shootings at Atlanta-area massage and spa parlors.
Between speakers, a march around Bellevues Downtown Park, and a makeshift candlelight vigil given the conditions, there was an emerging theme of a community that will not stay silent any longer.
We stand here amidst a crisis, one speaker told the crowd. Other speakers included Bellevue City Councilmember Janice Zahn, Bellevue Mayor Lynne Robinson, Bellevue Police Chief Steve Mylett, and former Washington governor Gary Locke.
We have to stand strong and loud against all forms of hatred, Locke said during a passionate speech.
