King County remains at risk for 'serious outbreak' with new variants, more activity: health officer

Coronavirus case rates and hospitalizations remain concerning in King County as variants spread and the majority of people in the region are not yet fully vaccinated.

Going forward, it's hard to know how bad this wave will be, but public health officials are urging people to double down on precautions for a little longer.

"This week's forecast is for continued mostly cloudy, with storms possible," Jeff Duchin, of Public Health — Seattle & King County said during a news briefing Friday.

"Cases and hospitalizations are substantial and holding steady this week. We can't predict with certainty whether cases will rise, fall or remain stable in the coming days. But with increasing numbers of more dangerous variants and our current level of vaccine coverage, along with increasing activities, we remain at risk for a serious outbreak."
