Demand for the COVID-19 vaccines in Washington has outpaced supply for months.
And, it doesn't look like it will slow anytime soon. Starting Thursday, every adult 16 and older will become eligible for the vaccine in Washington.
Since the start of the state's vaccine rollout, people have been frustrated endlessly scouring different websites to try to find the few open vaccine appointments near them. Supply has increased in the state over the past few months, but Washington is still receiving fewer than 400,000 doses -- and demand is only growing.
A new tool could save people a lot of time constantly refreshing pages to snag the soonest appointment.
A feature from CovidWA.com lets people sign up for text message notifications to find the next appointment that opens up near them. The process is simple: people have to text their zip code to 206-222-9793. Then, when there is an open appointment in that zip code, that person will receive a text message telling them where the appointment is, and giving them the link to sign up. Once a person clicks the link, they'll be brought to a page where they can easily schedule the appointment. If that location or appointment times don't work, the person can reply YES to continue receiving notifications.
