No standardized tests this spring for students in Washington schools
Students in public schools across Washington will not be given standardized tests this spring, officials announced.
The decision to instead push the tests out to the fall of next academic year comes as many students across the state had been learning under a remote learning model for most of the year after schools closed in March of 2020 to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
"I have made the determination that Washington state will not be administering the Smarter Balanced Assessments or the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science this spring," Superintendent Chris Reykdal said in a statement. "Instead, our assessment window for the 202021 school year will be in the fall a timeline consistent with guidance provided by the Department to satisfy federal testing requirements."
Reykdal said the state felt teachers and students could better use the time left in the school year for other things.
