Apple opens South Lake Union towers, plans to double current workforce
Apple announced Monday that its pair of 12-story South Lake Union buildings have opened for business for 1,000 employees.
The Cupertino, California-based company also reaffirmed its plans to hire 1,000 more employees in Seattle. The announcement came as Apple revealed it would invest more than $430 billion and add 20,000 jobs across the U.S. over the next five years.
Apple rarely discloses information on employee headcount or where its investing in new office space, but the pandemic and political pressure from Washington, D.C., is prompting many major tech companies to disclose U.S. investments and how theyre helping the economy recover.
As of Monday, Apples jobs site listed nearly 250 open positions in Seattle. Job listings included a senior machine learning and information intelligence researcher, an information security manager and an Apple Media Products software engineer.
