Snohomish and King Counties on verge of slipping back to Phase 2

EVERETT — Snohomish County, like much of Washington, has less than a week to get its COVID metrics down, or else it could move back to Phase 2, local leaders warn.

That would bring less indoor capacity for local businesses like restaurants, bowling alleys, gyms and movie theaters, as well as limited spectator capacity for sports.

On Friday, the state will let counties know if they’re staying put, or sliding back in the state’s Healthy Washington plan. And on Monday, the governor’s office will announce the moves.

In Snohomish County, chances of remaining in Phase 3 are slim, as case counts and hospitalization rates are above both the state’s benchmarks.

King County should brace for return to Phase 2 of reopening plan

With Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations on the rise in King County, the county’s public health director told the Metropolitan King County Council on Tuesday to prepare to slide back to Phase 2 of Gov. Jay Inslee’s reopening plan, the Seattle Times reported.

Sliding back a phase would place more indoor-capacity restrictions on businesses like restaurants, gyms and museums.

“I wanted to alert the council that barring something different coming from the governor, that we should expect that the announcement next week will be that King County will be moved back to phase two,” said Patty Hayes, director of Public Health – Seattle & King County, as quoted in the Seattle Times. “We might as well just get prepared for that and not just wait.”

The state will assess county-by-county data on Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations on Monday. If counties like King don’t meet the thresholds, they will go back a phase the following Friday.

I live in Everett, had the shots, wear a mask, follow the rules. Can't figure out where all the new cases come from as it seems most people are doing what they are supposed to...............

...of the populace to keep a pandemic going.

Although, in this case, I'm suspecting newer, more-transmissible variants of the virus are at least partly responsible.
