Voters give thumbs-up to school levies in Lakewood, Edmonds

LAKEWOOD — Support of proposed tax levies in the Lakewood and Edmonds school districts grew Wednesday after a second round of ballot counting.

In Lakewood, 53.1% of voters were backing a three-year supplemental property tax levy to pay for programs and services not funded by the state. Proposition 1 was passing with 52% on election night.

If results hold, the district will bring back an Educational Program and Operations levy which lapsed after voters rejected two more-costly levy proposals in 2020. This year’s version contains a lower tax rate than the measures defeated in 2020.

And in Edmonds, a six-year, $180 million capital levy was being supported by 55.8% of voters after Wednesday’s counting, also a 1% increase from Tuesday’s tally. The money will pay for maintenance, safety and security improvements on campuses, and replacement of Spruce and Oak Heights elementary schools.
