Seattle fine dining institution Canlis hires first female executive chef Aisha Ibrahim
Seattle's historic fine dining establishment Canlis just got a groundbreaking new leader in the kitchen.
Aisha Ibrahim will take the helm as executive chef at the storied Seattle restaurant as reported by the New York Times on Monday. Ibrahim will be the seventh chef in the restaurant's 70-year history, and the first female chef to hold the title as well.
The new hire for the award-winning restaurant comes after head chef Brady Williams announced that he would step down from the position in February to launch his own restaurant.
Born in the Philippines, Ibrahim grew up in West Virginia and attended Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in San Francisco. She went on to serve as sous chef at California's Manres, a prestigious three-Michelin-star restaurant, and followed that experience with international stints in Spain and Thailand. She had planned to open her own fine dining venture in Bangkok, plans that did not materialize following the outbreak the the novel coronavirus.
