Carnation's fireworks show canceled after fire marshal pulls permit

A fireworks show that's been months in the making got a last-minute cancellation in Carnation on Friday, raising questions about why a professional display is now considered too dangerous to go on.

Carnation is among the cities that bans personal fireworks, and a show organized by the Carnation 4th of July Committee was seen as a safe alternative. That all changed Friday afternoon when the fire marshal yanked the permit.

“Again it's out of an abundance of caution,” said Capt. Justin Walker with Eastside Fire & Rescue.

Walker said the fire marshal considered the tinder dry conditions and the fact that crews already battled huge brush earlier this week to decide that even a professional show was potentially too dangerous.
