Tourists return to downtown Seattle, but office workers are staying home

Foot traffic is steadily increasing in downtown Seattle, and tourism is on the upswing, according to Downtown Seattle Association (DSA) data.

But office workers haven’t come back.

The city is on a road to economic recovery by several metrics. Pike Place Market visitors have recovered by 80% since the Covid-19 pandemic began, hotel room demand has bounced back to 68% of what it was before March 1, 2020, and the number of downtown visitors has steadily increased.

DSA President and CEO Jon Scholes said the increase in foot traffic has given reason for optimism, but he recognized the tens of thousands of office workers missing from downtown every day makes the future uncertain for businesses.

Something like masks or vaccines….they might help people get over the fear of contracting Covid and dying like 700,000 plus of their fellow Americans……..
