Amazon subsidiary Zoox to test fleet of driverless cars in Seattle

One of Amazon’s subsidiary companies will be testing its driverless vehicles on the streets of Seattle over the next few months.

Zoox will unleash a fleet of automated all-wheel drive Toyota Highlanders in Seattle in an attempt to understand how the vehicles operate in unfamiliar conditions. The California-based company has tested the autonomous SUVs in San Francisco and Las Vegas, but wants to see how well they’ll maneuver in a cold, rainy metropolis like Seattle.

“A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor, and it’s the exact same principle for our technology,” Kai Wang, the company’s director of prediction," said in a news release. “The challenges of Seattle will let us hone our software stack and ultimately improve the behavior of our vehicles.”

A human driver will be in the vehicles at all times and will take control if need be.

If they ever make them unmanned I'm going to worry.
