Inslee plans to adopt OSHA's workplace vaccine requirement without major changes
Gov. Jay Inslee on Thursday said he plans to adopt President Joe Biden's workplace vaccine mandate without any major changes, if courts decide the Occupational Safety and Health Administration can proceed with its emergency rule.
The order from the federal agency, which is currently on hold as courts decide its legality, requires employers of 100 or more workers to determine whether staff are vaccinated and regularly test unvaccinated employees.
"I believe this standard is the right direction for the nation," Inslee said. "I know this has caused a little consternation for folks to know exactly what the near future is, but I hope to have judicial review in the near future. We'll be watching those decisions closely."
Previously, some thought the Washington governor would drop the eligibility threshold to employers with 50 or more workers and eliminate the test-out option, so the new requirement would match the governor's existing mandate for some state employees, first responders and educators, whom were not given the choice to be regularly tested in lieu of vaccination.
