Rivers recede Monday, more rain on the way

SEATTLE - Flood sirens sounded in the border town of Sumas on Sunday. Not a very welcoming sound for residents still recovering from recent flooding.

Whatcom and Skagit County got soaked by 3-6 inches of rain this weekend, enough to send rivers beyond their banks but fortunately below the historic levels seen just two weeks ago.

Navigating through flood-related road closures has become all too common for many locals. But it appears we are past the worst of the flooding. With the heaviest rain over, the floodwaters are receding.

While scattered showers continue today, the rain will be much less significant.

but I assume they're letting some water out of the reservoir upstream so it doesn't overtop. I imagine it's pretty full these days. We haven't had significant flooding this far south yet, even with the melting of the recent snows.

I'm sure they are watching the reservoir closely.
