Seattle waterfront park project gets $5M boost from Amazon
Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) is giving another multimillion-dollar donation to the waterfront park project in Seattle.
The $5 million gift it announced Thursday brings the company's contributions to the park to $12 million. The 20-acre project, expected to be completed by 2024, will cost $688 million. Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan in 2019 signed legislation that finalized the funding.
When Durkan signed the city's 2022 budget on Dec. 2, she said it provided funding needed to "complete the vision of a renewed downtown waterfront park." Her office didn't respond to requests for comment on whether Amazon's donation had been factored in by then.

Plans for the park include a new promenade park from Pioneer Square to the Seattle Aquarium, two rebuilt park piers, and a new elevated park connection between the waterfront and Pike Place Market. Improvements also include sidewalk and streetscape upgrades along Pike and Pine streets from First Avenue to Capitol Hill, and in Pioneer Square and Belltown.
