King County seeks deals to keep concrete flowing for up to 6 years

In a first, King County is seeking proposals directly from construction materials suppliers.

The move comes as a labor dispute that dates back to November has brought the region's $23 billion construction industry to its knees, with thousands of people idled by a strike by 330 concrete mixer drivers and concrete plant workers.

County Executive Dow Constantine on Wednesday announced the county is seeking one or more suppliers of concrete building materials to ensure projects can resume without further delays and disruptions.

Winning bidders will have the opportunity to lock in a contract worth $28 million to $35 million for the first three to four years. To qualify, bidders must have agreements preventing work stoppages and employer lockouts
