Central Kitsap School District leaders address levy failure
Central Kitsap School District officials seemed to accept a harsh reality during Wednesdays board meeting: the districts replacement educational enrichment programs and operations levy appears headed toward failure.
Results from the Kitsap County Auditors office Wednesday showed that out of 14,601 votes cast, 51.4% of voters voted against the levy measure that aims to collect a maximum of $40 million ($20 million in collection year 2023 and $20 million in collection year 2024).
Operations levies supplement the state's basic education allotment to operate and maintain schools and help school districts pay for classroom support, special education, counseling, transportation, food service, arts, athletics and activities, security and utilities.
Im going to be honest. I have complete heartache about this. Very disheartening," Central Kitsap School District Superintendent Erin Prince said. "The results are disappointing because this levy directly impacts
all of our 11,300 students who have a face and a name and a strength and needs."
