Seattle City Council mulls plan to establish system to police alleged SPD chief wrongdoing

Seattle City Council members on Tuesday heard presentations about ways to ensure that the chief of the Seattle Police Department is properly handling and responding to complaints filed against the agency's top law enforcement officer.

There is really no current informal or formal system that can address the high-level complaints filed against the police chief and there are a few already on file.

The council was expected to take up legislation sponsored by City Councilwoman Lisa Herbold on how to investigate complaints filed against the police chief.

Under Herbold's legislation, the Seattle Department of Human Resources and Officer of Inspector general would get an expanded role in dealing with accountability issues.
