Seattle lab buildings to be razed for apartments, filing shows

A pair of nearly 100-year-old lab and office buildings in Seattle's Belltown area would be demolished under a Washington Holdings proposal to build around 200 apartments.

Alexandria Real Estate Holdings (NYSE: ARE) has owned the buildings at 3000 and 3018 Western Ave. for 25 years, according to public records. Curi Bio Inc. and the University of Washington's National Primate Research Center operate in the buildings, online records show.

Curi Bio officials were not immediately available to comment. A UW spokesperson confirmed the university has a lease for the property; he added the university will vacate the property when the lease expires Feb. 28, 2025.

Joel Marcus, Alexandria's founder and executive chairman, and Ben Margoles, Washington Holdings' executive vice president and managing director of multifamily housing, declined to comment on Monday.

get rid of the Primate Research Center? I can only hope so. How long have we been trying to get this shameful lab closed. I will believe it when I see it.
