WWU students can register, get ballots on campus this Election Day
Students at Western Washington University can register to vote, get a replacement ballot and drop off their ballot on Election Day — all without leaving campus.
That’s thanks to the work of Civic Action Programs, a student-run office at Western focused on civic engagement, and a 2020 bill passed by the Washington state Legislature.
The Voting Opportunities through Education Act established 10 student engagement hubs on General Election Day at 10 of Washington’s colleges, including Western. Civic Action Programs has a memorandum of understanding with the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office, which allows them to provide voter registration services and ballot replacement printing on Election Day, said Stacy Henthorn, the county auditor.
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, Civic Action Programs’ Voter Hub will run from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and allow people to register, print their ballots and submit their ballots all in the Viking Union Multi-Purpose Room on campus. Other ballot boxes on campus, which are accepting ballots right now until 8 p.m. on Election Day, are located at Bond Hall and the Wade King Student Recreation Center.
