Meta to lay off hundreds of Seattle-area employees in latest round of cuts

Meta Platforms Inc. (Nasdaq: META) is laying off 331 employees in the Seattle area, according to a state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing.

Almost one-third of the cuts will take place at the tech giant’s offices in Redmond, which house employees in its augmented reality division. The company has a large office footprint in Redmond, where Meta had more than 2,000 employees, according to the most recently available data from the city.

In Bellevue, Meta will lay off 89 employees, while 40 are based across two Seattle offices. Additionally, 97 Washington-based remote employees are also being laid off. The layoffs will take effect on March 20.

The affected employees were notified of their employment terminations at least 60 days in advance, according to a letter written by Meta’s chief people officer, Janelle Gale.
