Arlington officer arrested for allegedly having pictures of child sex abuse

EVERETT — An Arlington police officer has been arrested on suspicion of possessing images of child sex abuse, officials said.

Dustin Bartlett, 41, was taken into custody Monday night after deputies served a search warrant at his home on Camano Island, according to a release from the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

Bartlett, an officer with the Arlington Police Department, is facing more than 10 counts of first-degree possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to a probable cause statement from his arrest.

Barlett had his bail set at $100,000 during his initial court appearance on Wednesday, according to a release from the Island County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Arlington Police Department (APD) said one of its officers has been arrested on allegations involving child pornography.

The officer was arrested by the Island County Sheriff’s Office on allegations involving the possession of images depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, APD said in a statement to KIRO Newsradio.

The officer was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of both the criminal investigation and an internal administrative investigation.

“These allegations are deeply troubling and, if proven true, would stand in direct opposition to the values, oath, and mission of this department,” APD stated. “The men and women of the Arlington Police Department have dedicated their professional lives to protecting the safety and well-being of our community, especially children and other vulnerable members of society. Conduct of this nature, if substantiated, would be fundamentally incompatible with the responsibilities entrusted to law enforcement officers.”

because I have always been totally unable to understand what is behind men's urge to own and view child pornography--even if they never act on it.

I don't care to understand to defend them in any way, but just to understand the pathology (or at least that is how I term it) behind it. I had a neighbor who was the nation's leading psychiatric expert on adult attention deficit disorder and we had some great discussions on that and other adjacent issues, but obviously the former issue is way too far afield for social debate.

At any rate I'm glad he was caught, but how many more like him?
