GOP lawmaker from Monroe to challenge DelBene

Republican state Rep. Elizabeth Scott, an uncompromising conservative who emerged from the ranks of the Tea Party in Snohomish County, has filed to run in 2016 against Democratic Congresswoman Suzan DelBene.

Scott filed paperwork May 21 with the Federal Election Commission but has made no public announcements about her candidacy.

Scott, a Monroe resident in her second legislative term, is the first Republican to enter the race against DelBene in the 1st Congressional District. The district stretches from the Canadian border south to suburban communities in east King County. It includes parts of Whatcom, Skagit and Snohomish counties.
