How'd you like the heat wave?

Yesterday it got up to 90 here which is very strange since we are near the ocean and this moderates our temps. The doors and windows were open all day, I ended up reading in a room on the north side of the house. I like it when it gets warm enough to sit in the shade without feeling guilty but this was wild. It cooled to 75 inside last night, today was mid-70's and dropping now.

Cliff Mass has an interesting post from Sat June 27, says that this was very unusual since it usually gets hot due to an offshore breeze and yesterday there wasn't one. Also expect more of this next week.

All sorts of records were broken yesterday and the governor has asked people to limit or forgo the use of fireworks this year.

and it produced triple digit heat here, unusual at this altitude.

I don't mind low 90s at all in this thin, dry stuff we call air. Triple digit heat is too damn hot.

and drank 3 galleons of water today. I bought some hats that look like they came out of Tudor English garden catalogs circa 1800s. I bought five of these gigantic white dress shirts on sale at Macy's so I practically glow brilliant in the sun. The shirts trashed quickly.

Didn't get above 79 today and currently at 75. Overcast all day with some severe thunder early this morning and a little rain. Was 92 yesterday though. Rest of the week is showing high 80's with no rain.

You just might live in the Pacific Northwest if you have no experience of humidity without precipitation.

And most of us don't have air conditioners.

Looks like it's going to get even worse this weekend:

I love the cool breeze in Seattle and miss it already.

I had a feeling this spring that it would be hot this summer. There were a few days in spring when the temperature seemed to shoot up more rapidly than normal.

And it's only June.

News is now reporting a massive fire in Wenatchee.

Looks very scary. There's a post in GD from a DUer over there.

I've been reading Cliff Mass's blog and Scott Sistek's twitter and both have commented on it being unusual here on the west side to get so hot without the offshore flow. Sistek's said NWS might be shifting the coming forecast a little lower. I hope so. Yesterday I got on the bus and was tempted to just stay on it for the AC.

And yes, 90 is a heat wave for north end of WA on the coast.

http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/fire-threatens-homes-near-wenatchee/

fast-moving wildfire fueled by high temperatures has grown to more than 1,800 acres, burned a dozen structures and was threatening as many as 70 more buildings in Wenatchee. More than 1,000 people have fled their homes.

The Sleepy Hollow Fire “is a very quickly-spreading fire,” said chief deputy state fire marshal Bill Slosson, who described the area as a “pretty dense urban interface area.”

The blaze sparked Sunday afternoon was burning out of control 12 hours later, said Rich Magnussen, a spokesman for the Chelan County Emergency Management office.

I don't know if it was more because of the disgusting representation of Republican corporate welfare flying above and making everyone want to die from the noise or from the heat. Seriously, when it is this host, they shouldn't subject us to such noise. So much noise. It made me want to die.
