Comcast sued for $100M by Washington state AG, alleging 1.8M violations of consumer protection law
BREAKING NEWS: Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson has scheduled a news conference this morning where he plans to announce a $100 million consumer protection lawsuit against Comcast.
The lawsuit accuses Comcast of engaging in a pattern of deceptive practices constituting more than 1.8 million individual violations of the Washington Consumer Protection Act, the AGs office says in a media alert. The companys conduct impacted approximately 500,000 Washington state consumers.
The news conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Pacific time. The lawsuit has not yet been made public.
Update: In a statement to GeekWire, Comcast indicates that the dispute involves its Service Protection Plan, a monthly fee that covers maintenance of in-home wiring for Xfinity TV, Internet and voice, and troubleshooting for customer-owned equipment.
