I thought those were unconstitutional because we're supposed to be "confronted with our accuser", but I may be behind the times. I got a ticket in the mail this morning for 26 in a 20 mph school zone on NE 8th in Bellevue! It says it won't go on my record as it's processed as a parking ticket, but I'm still bloody annoyed.
BTW, avoid that road -- the whole damn thing is a speed trap!

(114,672 posts)and I have to say they cut way down on assholes blowing through red lights. The cameras have been gone for a few years now but there's still a marked decrease in accidents at lights.
The major intersection closest to me used to be full of shredded car bits at least once a month. Now I rarely see any signs that there has been an accident there.

The lower the speed limit, the less leeway you're going to have. If it's 20mph, I do 20. If 25, I do 25. I figure that at about 35 mph I have some slack, but I'm not about to do 50.
And no, they aren't unconstitutional, but a lot of people really don't like them. The hate getting caught speeding.
In my opinion speeding isn't much of a problem in my city, but running red lights is a huge one. If I were in charge I'd consider having barriers rise up out of the pavement when the light turns red so that four more cars don't go through.

Asked one of the local judges about it and he said he had to pay the one he got.
Since driving is legally a privilege (i.e.-- you have no right to drive and must be licensed) the usual rules of evidence don't apply.
