Gov. Inslee condemns Obamacare replacement as 'defacement'
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee condemned the House Republican replacement plan for the Affordable Care Act as “less a replacement and more of a defacement."
The Democrat made the remarks while attending an open house for a biotech startup in Vancouver, Washington.
“It would jeopardize the health care of tends of thousands of Washingtonians,” he said. “We’ve had so much success, 750,000 more people covered. To rip away this health care is morally unacceptable.”
When Inslee attended the Democratic Governors Association in Washington D.C. last month, he and Oregon Gov. Kate Brown met with those who hold the most sway over the shape of the post-ACA landscape.
Inslee said he asked Tom Price, who is the Trump administration’s Secretary of Health & Human Services, if he could guarantee that people wouldn’t lose their health insurance under whatever replacement plan Republicans adopt.
“He couldn’t guarantee it,” Inslee said.
