Cathy McMorris Rodgers: My son has a preexisting condition. He’s one of the reasons I voted for the AHCA.

Hearing late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s emotional monologue this week about his son’s condition and his family’s experience in the moments after his birth, I had a flashback to the day my son was born and we learned he had Down syndrome.

My husband and I had a lot of questions about Cole’s future. Whether he’d have health care shouldn’t have had to be one of them. When you’re facing years of doctor’s appointments, you want to know that having a preexisting condition, such as an extra 21st chromosome or a heart defect, won’t prevent you or your loved ones from accessing the care you need.

Protections for children such as Cole Rodgers and Billy Kimmel have long existed, as they should. And despite what people are saying, House Republicans aren’t seeking to strip these protections – or anyone’s protections – away.

It’s the people we love – our children, friends and neighbors – who are the inspiration behind our American Health Care Act, which we passed in the House on Thursday.

Remember sweet lil 'ol Cathy from her 2014 SOTU rebuttal? Why, she's just an evangelical sweetheart who grew up pickin' apples, married to a Navy vet and has a special needs son- which I guess is supposed to make her seem "relatable"? Then she trotted out Bette from Spokane, harmed by the evil Obamacare. It turned out Bette didn't have ACA coverage, refused to even go the site.

What a joke.

She's the republican who claimed in the rebuttal to President Obama's 2014 State of the Union, that "Bette from Spokane" was concerned because she was being forced to pay premiums increasing by nearly $700.00 a month. It turned out Bette Grenier had actually chosen the healthcare plan she paid for over lower costing insurance because she didn't want to go on the exchanges. The DCCC called for her apology because it turned out to be a false claim. Cathy's office, in turn, said she couldn't be held responsible for not being given all the facts by Bette Grenier. I feel Cathy should have apologized to the nation since she neglected to research fully her claims before she voiced them to the nation.

Guess alternative facts were being shared then, Conway just hadn't been on the scene to educate us of that particular term.

She's gaining big time in this vote. First, she's exempted from its content (she's a congressional representative). Second, the child she refers to already receives additional government aide through her husband (retired Navy).

I remember her, and other elected republicans, screaming how they had to save the nation against the ACA because it would result in death panels. Now, those very same elected republicans have rushed a vote to do just that... vote for a healthcare system that relieves the most vulnerable of all health care, and thus, die without any benefit of healthcare in the world.

Now they'll blame the ACA.... and claim any deaths will be the result of saving the country from ACA. more

I live in the district that voted for her. It's red, although democrats are fighting to regain ground.

I. Cannot. Stand. Her. So. Called. Representation.
