Mount Rainier will reopen, slowly, following end of shutdown
There are a lot of people who are rejoicing now that the government is back open, and federal employees are going back to work. Snowshoers and hikers are likely among those as Mount Rainier National Park will reopen -- soon.
After passing a short-term funding deal to reopen the government after a record shutdown, the National Park Service announced on Saturday that they would begin restoring full winter operations at the park, but that significant snow removal would take many days to restore full access to Paradise.
"With the enactment of the continuing resolution, the National Park Service is preparing to resume regular operations though the schedule for individual parks may vary depending on staff size and complexity of operations," the Mount Rainier site announced. "Many parks which have been accessible throughout the lapse in appropriations remain accessible with basic services."
On Sunday, the Longmire Museum reopened, along with the National Park Inn, gift shop and restaurant which were open since January 13. Full park services will be available in Longmire while access to Paradise is restored.
