May Day 2019 In The Seattle Area: Here's What To Expect

SEATTLE, WA — In the Seattle area, there are really two May Days. One is a celebration of workers and organized labor, the other is an occasion to bash corporations, sometimes literally.

The past two May Days in Seattle have been relatively peaceful. In 2017, the first May Day under Donald Trump, right-wing demonstrators showed up to confront left-wing anti-fascist protesters — but neither side fought and actually ended up sharing a joint. In 2018, a man was arrested for pegging the Amazon spheres with a rock.

This year, the least you can expect is traffic disruptions during afternoon hours. The 20th annual May Day parade kicks off at 1 p.m. at Judkins Park. The route will snake through the International District, Capitol Hill, and downtown before ending near Westlake.

There will be rolling street closures as the parade makes its way through the city. You can find the route here. King County Metro expects that routes 2, 11, 12, and 14 will be disrupted at some point on May Day.

Often some idiot(s) think they're helping the poor or working class by committing vandalism.
