U.S. Senator Joe Manchin 'Excited' To Work With Trump On Tax Reform Issue

WHEELING — Although he seems to agree with at least some of their demands, Sen. Joe Manchin was one of only three Democratic senators who didn’t sign a letter sent this week by the Senate Democratic Caucus to President Donald Trump and other GOP leaders outlining conditions for working together on tax reform.

Among other demands, the letter, sent Tuesday, states Democrats won’t support any tax reform package that lowers taxes for the top 1 percent of earners or increases the tax burden on the middle class, according to published reports.

The other Democrats who did not sign the letter are Sens. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Donnelly of Indiana.

“He just feels its better to work in a bipartisan manner on major pieces of legislation,” Manchin spokesman Jonathan Kott said Thursday.

Even the democrats there, are more conservative. He has to deliver for them on right wing issues or they can easily replace him with a republican.

But there are other Democrats in conservative states, like Jon Tester of Montana. But it always seems like Manchin is the odd man out among the Democrats. I would think it would be an uncomfortable position.
