Harrison Commission to set hearing date for election contest, consider grant application for electronic poll books

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Harrison County commissioners on Wednesday will consider setting a date for a hearing on a primary election contest filed by Del. Laura Kimble, R-Harrison, following her narrow loss in the House of Delegates District 71 race.

A recount of precincts eligible to vote in the District 71 contest affirmed the canvassed election results, showing Kimble lost to Tim McNeely by six votes.

“We want this to go fast, so we’ll have the scheduling all worked out,” Commissioner David Hinkle said, noting the hearing will likely be held within two to three weeks.

“We’ve got a pretty aggressive timeline formed in order to give all the parties time to do what they want to do down the road,” Hinkle said, referring to the ability of either party to appeal the commission’s ruling to Harrison County Circuit Court and potentially the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia.
