They were really tough, real scrapers. Good thing they didn't have a big guy! They must've been one of the hardest teams to beat at the tournament. They were so fast paced, you know?
I was really worried there for a while.

True, only one UW starter is not white -- but he's Traevon Jackson, and he secured the win with his clutch ball-handling and free-throw shooting in the final seconds.

And off the bench is Nigel Hayes, a superb athlete who's only a freshman.

UW's roundball team has been blessed with numerous black players over the years but you have to remember that Bo Ryan and his assistants recruit heavily in Wisconsin, rural in particular, and that they compete with Marquette and UW-Milwaukee for big city minority talent. They do also sign talent from outside the state, of course, and many of those players have been black. It's just the happenstance of recent recruiting decisions. And over the years many fine non-white players have contributed: Ryan Evans, Freddie Owens, Devin Harris, Kam Taylor, Alando Tucker and the Gregory (to reach way back) brothers.
