Wisconsin may become the 11th state in the US to ban abortions after 20 weeks.
Republicans in the midwestern state announced a bill on Thursday that could become law within weeks.
Governor Scott Walker, who used a moderate-sounding campaign ad on abortion during his re-election last fall, said he would sign the bill when it crosses his desk. Republicans control both houses of the legislature.
The law would make it a felony to perform an abortion after 20 weeks and impose a $10,000 fine along with a possible three-year, six month prison term.
The state revised its child abuse statutes in 1998 to allow authorities to take a fetus into protective custody if the mother is abusing drugs or alcohol during her pregnancy.

Yes, I know 'we' elected him three f-ing times. He's a Koch-whore and too many of my state-mates are ignorant Fox news watchers. I don't know how this country recovers from 30 years of Fox.

Scott Kevin Walker stopped caring about Wisconsin a loooong time ago- if indeed he ever did care.

(3,974 posts)4. Cap Times: the law "would likely require emergency C-sections"
Just unbelievable.
A 20-week abortion ban being proposed in Wisconsin would likely require a pregnant woman to deliver via Caesarean section if she were to undergo a medical emergency requiring termination of the pregnancy...
In the case of a medical emergency, a physician would only be allowed to terminate the pregnancy "in the manner that, in reasonable medical judgment, provides the best opportunity for the unborn child to survive."
To do so, a doctor would use a fetal monitor to check the baby's condition, which would require a C-section.
