Plain Talk: Why the right is sliming the long-finished John Doe
Scott Walker doesn't have to take a back seat to anyone, not even Chris Christie, in surrounding himself with questionable characters who think nothing of breaking the law for their own advantage.
What's phenomenal about Walker, though, is that he regularly escapes any responsibility, adeptly keeping himself above the fray so that, like Sgt. Schultz in the old sitcom "Hogan's Heroes," he can say: "I know nothing."
He knew nothing when his close aide in the Milwaukee County exec's office was swindling vets' groups, he knew nothing about a secret email system that was installed a few feet from his office so his staff could campaign undetected on government time, he knew nothing about coordination between his campaigns and supposedly independent fundraisers, which in Wisconsin is against the law.
But you've got to hand it to Walker and the conservative cabal that covers for him. They're extremely adept at setting up smoke screens to confuse and manipulate public opinion and keep any heat off the governor.
