Teacher shortage in Wisconsin affecting local school district

Thanks Scott Walker!

Douche!

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

There are only a few weeks until the first day of school and the La Crosse School District still has quite a few open positions, and it's a problem that isn't unique to La Crosse.

Before the school year begins on Sept. 1 the district needs to fill 23 different positions, but the district said that's proving to be difficult because the number of applicants continues to drop each year.

"You can't just take anybody off the street to do those jobs," said Steve Salerno, associate superintendent of human resources for the school district.

Salerno said until 2011 there were virtually no issues trying to fill an open position, but since then, trying to find a teacher, administrator, even a teaching assistant has been been difficult.

1. Nationwide we have teacher shortages...

Walker clones have not only shredded teacher education, but scared off a lot of graduates from entering the field.

And local budget bullshit hasn't helped

Our reforms removed the special interest stranglehold and allowed Wisconsinís teachers to do what they do best: educate our kids.

.@ScottWalker This is why you're polling @ 3%. Workers are not the "special interests". The Koch brothers are. They own YOU, not teachers.
