UW-Whitewater dorm limbo could crimp recruitment

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is aggressively recruiting students from Illinois to boost its enrollment and its bottom line.

There's just one problem: A much-anticipated new residence hall needed to house a growing enrollment has yet to be built. The project has stalled in Madison.

The Master Plan for University Housing called for the campus to build four new residence halls, and then close the two Wells Towers that have aged to the point of becoming high-maintenance. The towers, which each hold 600 students, will be 70 to 80 years old by the time the four halls replacing them are built.

The first new dorm was to open this fall, but it's still in the design phase.

it's a matter of filling classrooms as they are offering Missouri Students in-state tuition and it's putting a dent in UMSL's enrollment numbers along with a few other things.
