Trying so hard to remember, can anyone answer.....
Back in the 70's there was a music venue downtown between University and Johnson that had some really great shows. Moody Blues among them. Anyway, I think it was the Plasma Center for a long time since. Stone Hearth? That was on park wasn't it?
I realize that there were many memory inhibitors at the time, but please someone?
Thanks much...

(226 posts)I was a player in Madison beginning in 1980, although I'd been here off an on since 1976, and I don't remember a Dewey's.
I do remember the Stone Hearth, Bunky's on Park, and the Shuffle, on the near west side.
But nothing big enough to house the Moody Blues in that area.

(28,817 posts)Deweys was a hole so it was amazing who played there. It was in a basement or some such. It was on Lake or Frances between Johnson and University. I am class of '74 so I must have been there in the early 70's Cheap Trick and Siegel Schwall played there many times. My friend who reminded me says he saw Rick Derringer there. The Faces played there before Rod. It hopped. I saw the Moodies there and even then I couldn't believe they played there. I think it closed before I graduated. Then the Stone Hearth closed in the 80's because of gang trouble. They tore Stone Hearth down to build some campus thing..
Funny you remember Bunkys. That was quite a bit later than Dewey's. My husband and I didn't meet there but we both worked there. The owner Jim Capadona wound up in a Federal Prison on drug charges. Quite a long stretch I believe. Ben Sidran played Bunkys a couple time. It sorta went bust because all the employees knew where the owner was headed. Clink...
It's fun to reminisce..
Did you appear in a group? Who was it? I probably saw you... Here's looking at you Strange...

Still In Wisconsin
(4,450 posts)In one week, in I want to say '82 or '83, REM and U2 both played there. I saw the Replacements there many times in their early days.
The owner was a grade A asshole, but he supported the local music scene.
