Five Senate Democrats would lose to Republican candidates if the elections were held today and three have approval ratings under 50%, according to new Axios/SurveyMonkey polls.

The most vulnerable senators are Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Jon Tester in Montana and Claire McCaskill in Missouri. Each of their approval ratings is either under 50% or just above it, while Trump's is well above that in all three states.

By the numbers:

Trump’s approval is higher than the incumbent senators in six states (WV, ND, MT, IN, MO, OH). It’s higher than his national approval rating in all 10 states.
North Dakota voted for Trump over Hillary Clinton by a 36 point margin, but a generic Republican candidate would have just a 2 point lead over Sen. Heidi Heitkamp.
Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin's narrow three-point advantage over a generic Republican candidate is underscored by outside conservative groups that have already spent millions of dollars in attack ads against her. ................................................

Conservative groups have already spent approximately $3.1 million on attacks ads attack Wisconsin's Democratic senator Tammy Baldwin, per HuffPost. They've spent another $1.6 million boosting her Republican opponents.

Republican turnout in the election could be increased by Scott Walker, the state's Republican governor, who is also up for re-election this year too, which means his loyal base of Republican voters will likely be energized to show up on election day. And although it was short-lived, two of Baldwin's Republican opponents (Kevin Nicholson and Leah Vukmir) signed a "unity pledge" vowing to support one another and run campaigns "focused on defeating Sen. Tammy Baldwin."


One more thing: The amount of money conservative groups have spent on ads attacking Baldwin so far is "is more than what all the other Democratic Senate incumbents on the ballot this year have faced combined (under $550,000)," per HuffPost, which cites the Center for Responsive Politics.................

1. walker has many more liabilites with hard core conservatives as he embraces Obamacare

has growing liabilities with moderate republicans with trashing state's wetland protections and corporate giveaways to Foxcomm

no sure bet that walker is a positive, one thing for sure, the democratic turnout will be record breaking for a midterm election.

4. I would say WOULD HAVE BEEN record-breaking if the Republicans hadn't been successful in

pushing through their voter suppression measures. They delivered Wisconsin to TRUMP in 2016 and probably will save Walker in 2018.

3. Repugs here in WI know their days are numbered...

and it's not always because of what they themselves did here first, but also because of how well that fit in with
Chump and Chumpism.

More and more people are getting revolted, (as in sick to their stomachs) by them.

So now their only option is to attack the folks who didn't fall in line.

It's a not-so-Civil War.

5. Everything you said is true... but:

will the votes be counted fairly? Will Democrats in Milwaukee be allowed to vote?

Recent history is not on our side. I think it will be a very good year for Democrats nationally, but in Wisconsin, I think we're going to get four more years of Walker, and bye bye Tammy. Of course, if somehow the voter suppression tactics are stopped then yeah, the Republicans would be in trouble here.
