Let me tell you about Mama Freeman . . .
Mama Freeman recently celebrated her 80th birthday. Her life has been a tough one, raising several children alone and working hard in different occupations. Her determination and faith has brought her through.
Mama Freeman is the cornerstone in a very troubled neighborhood in Milwaukee. Every day she works to make her small part of the community better--bringing donated bread from area stores for folks who need it, counseling young people to stay on the right path in life, taking guns away during escalating arguments to prevent tragedy. She is a pastor, and her tiny storefront church is part of the old building she owns. People come to her when they are in trouble and she does all she can for them. They got the city to put up a sign dedicating the street in her name.
Now she herself needs some help. Her building has some code violations that she can't afford to fix and they are charging her a fine for every day this goes on. (This news clip explains the situation.) Her friends have started a gofundme page to help her out so she can continue to be the mama of the neighborhood. I've had the privilege to meet Mama Freeman and talk with her a few times, and I know she (and I) will be very grateful to anyone who would kick in a few dollars.
