http://www.change.org/petitions/pepin-county-board-wisconsin-deny-approval-of-petition-to-rezone-for-frac-sand-facilities-at-35-near-jjThis is through change.org and the proposed 3 story sand washing facility would be near my property.
We need to petition the county board to NOT grant a variance to allow this to happen. It would ruin the Great River Road in our part of Wisconsin, potential health hazards from silica dust in the air have not been fully studied in relationship to this operation, as well as heavy truck traffic ruining our roads.
All so someone else can wreck havoc and make a buck. Then leave us with the mess.
Thank you for looking and (hopefully) signing.

(16,254 posts)I think this is the most irresponsible action they have taken and are in too big of a hurry to get as much started as they can because of the possibility they cause earthquakes.
It is obvious these companies have no regard for our environment. The sooner we stop this nonsense, the better off we'll all be.

(2,807 posts)We spend a lot of time in the Alma area during the summer. They are also trying to put a plant near Cochrane / Fountain City. I hope that neither plant gets built. It would ruin the area.

(58,162 posts)silica dust is the real killer around these facilities and areas where the sand is mined. everyone knows this but the powers to be look the other way....

(8,421 posts)I know that area as we drive through there on the way to KY or other points south. It is really the silica dust that I am most worried about, that and using up all the water around here.
