Related: About this forumHo-lee cash register, Batman. Senator Dumbass cleaned up.
No wonder Dumbass found the Obama-supported background check bill to be "fatally flawed." (Without any specifics or the least hint of a reason.)
Check out how much his own campaign accounts have benefited from the association with N.R.A. lobbyists:
That's Senator I-Married-the-Boss's-Daughter in 3rd place there, with close to 1.2 million to 'the good' on deposit.

That thread includes a video of Wisconsin's Republican place-holder in the Upper House, opining that 'insurers and private medical businesses should have life-and-death power over other Americans,' cuz, you know, it's all about making those cash registers sing. Screw the poor, the sick, and anyone who the health care system might have already bankrupted.)

(9,933 posts)If there is one thing we need to put a stop to it's this institutionalized accepted bribery of politicians. That and the revolving door policy that hires politicians for corporate positions right after they leave office. And appoints corporate representatives to head departments meant to regulate their former industry. Didn't there used to be a rule that politicians had to wait a number of years before accepting work in certain industries?

(1,388 posts)spent even a fraction of that on gun safety, maybe a 2 year old precious little girl would be alive today. This is criminal to donate money for an organization devoted to death.

Interesting bit about Heidi H., too.

I am not listing all of them. But it's clear to me Red States are hazardous to our national health.

(19,537 posts)Who coincidentally is also retiring after this term... I wonder what job he has lined up to work at after he leaves. Winchester? Some other arms manufacturer?
I think what would be interesting to also document is how much money the NRA gave or is giving to the Republican opponents of Democrats like Mark Pryor, Heidi Heitkamp, and Mark Begich. That would jack up this toll and show how the threat of money to opponents also is corrupting those who don't receive money for their votes as well.

(5,279 posts)I say we legislate a bill to apply a multiplier to penalties according to level of government
For any and all crimes perpetuated at a Civic level of elected government. 2X max penalties
For any and all crimes perpetuated at a County level of elected government 3X max penalties
For any and all crimes perpetrated at a State level of elected government 4X max penalties.
For any and all crimes perpetrated at a Federal level of elected government 5X max penalties.
Staff members for elected officials, permanent and temporary, are subject to same punishments. Elected officials over convicted non-elected staff members will be fined at 40% of yearly compensation.
Bribery clause; all parties of a bribe receive equal culpability and punishment. Amendment 1. those testifying in the prosecution of elected officials revert back to normal levels of punishment.
Any suggestions for refinement?

Scroll down to "Copy Image Location" and paste that into a new browser window.
Make sure what pops up is what you want, then copy that link into your post and it'll
kind of look like:

It'll look like a protected website that keeps it's own graphic content, thank you very much.

(2,354 posts)might be a really interesting project.
Mother Jones this month had an article about the Koch Bros. & NRA combined spending/lobbying
which included a 25 million dollar total number, for last year's elections.
The store-receipt graphic shows 8 million and change, but doesn't identify the period of time or
very many other details.
