Politicians hit back at the Canberra bashers
ACT Liberal Senator Gary Humphries has played down continued criticism of Canberra in its centenary year.
Critical reports of the national capital have surfaced regularly this year in domestic and overseas media.
The unflattering articles have attacked the city's role as the home of Federal Parliament and described it is soulless.
Senator Humphries says the centenary celebrations will not be enough to dislodge long held prejudices about the national capital.
"My view has always been that if people choose to be a bit contemptuous or dismissive of Canberra that's fine, these are people who don't appreciate what a great city Canberra is to live in," Senator Humphries said.
