I'm a single parent of 4. Last year, my CCB amount was based on the year before - when I was a student for most of the year. When I got my degree, I got a job right away and I worked all of last year but my take home wasn't that much more than before, because when I started working, I forfeited spousal support. My low-wage job technically made up the difference...but I have a lot of new costs, a long commute (and car/gas costs), my oldest child started university (actually, compared to the year before last my CCB amount last year dropped as she turned 18), child support dropped....but my CCB based on the year before helped immensely and then when I did my taxes this year I found my CCB was going to drop by several hundred dollars a month due to me working and making a bit more. I was panicking...I really didn't know how I was going to make up the difference. I'm still under the poverty line so losing that much is a big deal.

When word was out that the new CCB was going to be considerably better...I did the calculator and really didn't believe it. It showed me getting quite a bit MORE than last year. WHAT? I thought there must be some mistake. And after filing I never got a confirmation of how much I was going to get...so I was on pins and needles until I checked my account this morning - the calculator was very exact. That is what I received. My relief is immense...I can't even describe it. I was thinking of what else I could cut out of my budget...and now this. I pretty much cried before work this morning. I didn't vote for Trudeau, but this morning I wanted to kiss him!
