'Freedom Convoy' leader Pat King denied bail, remains in jail

Leader of the so-called Freedom Convoy Pat King has been denied bail because of a "substantial likelihood" he would reoffend, according to Justice of the Peace Andrew Seymour.

King, an Alberta resident who helped lead the three-week occupation in Ottawa, was arrested last Friday and faces charges of mischief, counselling to commit mischief, counselling to disobey a court order, and counselling to obstruct police. He broadcast his arrest in a livestream, which was viewed by thousands of people on social media.

Seymour said there is "overwhelming" evidence against King with regards to "supporting his participation and leadership in the Freedom Convoy."

Seymour said evidence showed the proposed surety was involved in organizing the protests and she is firmly entrenched among those leading the convoy. He also questioned her credibility to commit to justice due to her role in attending and supporting the protests.

This is detention of a suspect who is likely to reoffend (against the public) if released before trial.

More specifically, the suspect has not provided surety that the court can trust.

This is not punishment.

The only punishments so far have been tickets, which are summary punishments and might be appealed anyway, so there have been no judgements on the tickets, either.

I think they're more unified, and, generally speaking, more laid back.

They were pretty much embarrassed by the actions of their people, and got a bit riled up by the arrogance of the protesters who said a big "fuck you' to the people they hindered by their blockade and their loud display. It also didn't help that it looked like the whole thing was instigated by US citizens working with Canadians.

So, they came down hard on the side of law and order.

Peace, Order and Good Government (POGG) and Canadians, for the most part, see that clause as almost an identifier as to what we believe and how we should act.
