Raymond Briggs is good! The book is available. ...another by Briggs that I haven't read, not as sweet, but should be interesting...

I think I heard "Dot Cotton" of Eastenders fame make a cameo as the father's step-mother! I was captivated!

(ie not at all well). I think he may have felt a bit bad at depicting them as naive, and 'Ethel and Ernest' was his way of giving them more dignity by telling their real story. It is very moving.

"You just don’t know what’s going to happen, with a lunatic like Trump. And when we left that Europe thing, that Brexit nonsense, I was just so horrified. Crazy. When Nato and the UN were created, we thought it meant there could never be another world war. Well, there bloody well could be. Terrifying, isn’t it? Can’t believe it.”

The clueless mother, always believing things will be all right, and the firebrand father, railing away.

And the sad thing is this--all the holocaust survivors are dying. That monstrous event is fading. There are children who are in college who somehow believe that we were ALLIED WITH GERMANY during WW2.

We don't teach history, and it shows.
