After a search I found a 2nd source, HelloNews Source, which looks like a gossip mag equalavent site.

I'm thinking that keeping '2 aged, we got on Omaha Beach with the Nazis shooting back at us' are a damned low security risk.

Also, seems freaking wrong.

1. Can't tell - it's the Mail, so they may not be reporting accurately

The closest I can find to an explanation in the article is:

Trip organiser Paul Reed said that entering the American sector had never been an option for non-US citizens, once the President's visit was confirmed.

He said that, in line with previous major anniversaries attended by US presidents, the area would be in lockdown so it was never on the itinerary 16 months ago.

Reed is an established guide on Normandy beach tours. I can't tell where "16 months" comes from. Trump's attendance only seems to have been confirmed this April.
