Labour expels Alastair Campbell from party

Alastair Campbell, the communications director under Labour prime minister Tony Blair and an ardent remain campaigner, has been expelled from the Labour party, he said on Tuesday.

Campbell’s expulsion comes after he said he voted for the Liberal Democrats in the European elections last week.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Campbell said he was “sad and disappointed” by his expulsion “particularly on a day leadership finally seems to be moving to the right place on Brexit”.

He added: “I am and always will be Labour. I voted Lib Dem, without advance publicity, to try to persuade Labour to do right thing for country/party. In light of appeal, I won’t be doing media on this. But hard not to point out difference in the way antisemitism cases have been handled.”

Labour is a joke. How can you expel someone for not voting for you in one election. I would understand if he where an MP but he is an ordinary voter. Are they going to do that to very member who voted Lib Dem because of the bollocks Labour has made of their Brexit Policy?

There have been many people who have joined the party after publicly supporting another. If he'd been urging others to do it before the election, it might look different.

Although if these parties were to apply their rules equally, the Conservatives would have hardly any grassroots left after so many right wingers defected to the Brexit pity party last week.
